Panic, worry, regret. I felt overwhelmed. I’d just heard that a two-year consultancy I had committed myself to had been suspended, effective immediately due to financial mismanagement by the local partner. What was I to do? I’d turned down so many assignments to concentrate on this one. What would the family live on?
But in the days ahead, as I found myself with considerable free time, I discovered that I started to enjoy experiences that had almost disappeared from my life. I suddenly had more time for myself, my family; especially my two sons who were sitting major exams this year. I was more rested and relaxed as I did not have client reports hanging over my head. I reconnected with old friends. What joy to have some months living without the relentless planning, travel, deadlines and reports. I realized the truth of Ecclesiastes 3: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” God had planned this season for me. So I needed to make the most of the opportunities it presented, not worry and fret.
