SETI (Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence) is doggedly searching for life “somewhere out there. . . .” Space programs and massive telescopes scour the skies in search of someone else, something else, anything else – that might make us feel less alone. We send out our own signals and cry out for a response, waiting and waiting, spending billions of dollars and millions of man-hours listening for a voice in our loneliness.
The same thing is the purpose of the inscribed tablets in the spacecraft that show pictures of two humans, and then depict the location of the earth in the solar system within a star map. This is to honestly present ourselves to whoever is out there and invite them to contact us.
Interesting. People of the earth seem to be so lonely and so full of angst about whether or not there is anyone else “out there.”
TV shows on numerous networks depict how investigators go into documented haunted locations to invite the ghosts (demons) to reveal themselves, to tap, to move something, to make a noise, and so forth. The investigators get all excited when they see something move, or hear a knock. The fact is that these things are merely parlor tricks. The real supernatural phenomena are the miracles that God manifests such as an oil jar than never ran out of oil, an iron tool that floated on top of water, a Son raised from the dead after dying on the cross for the sins of the world.
If evolution were true, then there should be millions of worlds out there similar to ours. Our paths should have often intersected by now. The search for ghosts, the search for mermen, the search for Yeti, the search for alien life – these searches are all an expression of that loneliness and heart-cry for something, someone, anything to fill that void that only God can fill. Sadly we try to fill the vacuum with all sorts of things that will never fill it up.
God created us and designed our inner parts to be lonely apart from connection to Him.
Jesus came and died on the cross to bring us to God (1 Peter 3:18).
It is God Himself Who gives to all life, and breath, and all things; And it is He who made of one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed seasons, and the bounds of their habitation; that they should seek God, the Creator, if by some possibility they might feel after Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us: For in Him we live, and move, and have our being. (from Acts 17:25-28)
Jesus came to bring us to God. Godly leaders should never be involved in anything less than bringing people into connection with God!
