Marginalized employees ‒ they are in your organization, right now. They’re on the fringes. They are the people who don’t join in. What lessons does Jesus’ life teach us about putting our arms around these people and insuring they feel valued as well?
The world hungers for and desperately needs institutions that practice forgiveness well enough to train us in failure, that tell the truth and that teach ways of repair. Without such institutions, it is, quite simply, difficult even to breathe.
Trying to get a speck out of friend’s eye is an example of trying to help someone change for the better (Matt. 7:5). I think we will find that others are more likely to respond to our efforts to “help them” if we ourselves have a reputation for being “correctable.” If we eagerly open up to someone who has a suggestion, and if we put it into practice, and if we let others know that it was someone else’s idea – then those around us will be more likely to hear our suggestions to them.
But if we have a reputation of getting miffed any time we are so much as asked for clarification, if we respond defensively, then we should expect the same from them.
When I teach, I try to make it a time of discovery together. We are discovering how God wants all of us to be transformed. So, it is true for those being led only to the extent that it is true for the one who is leading. Establish a culture of meekness and openness to correction by leading the way in your own example.
