First of all an organization must invite feedback. How?
• Suggestion Box
• Direct Requests
• A Stated Policy – clearly articulate that the team is expected to help adjust the operation, solving problems and enhancing things that work
Then, once we are clearly open to feedback we should expect to receive it. When it comes, it should be welcomed and appreciated and seriously considered. Don’t always respond with knee-jerk reactions and objections – It will cost too much, it’s not our style, we tried that already, it can’t be done, it is too simple, it is too complicated . . . etc.
We should also identify innovations that seem to work and then develop a strategy to integrate them into the operations of the organization. Perhaps a weekly or bi-weekly session in the office with key team members and idea people to discuss innovation.
An example that occurs to me has happened many times. The boss actually invites input on nearly every single one of the projects he has initiated. He sends the design document to the entire team for suggestions, additions, and improvements. THEN a new revised document is created that integrates the useful contributions of the team.
So, there is a simple answer the question, “how is feedback integrated?” We just solicit feedback and then we integrate it. Just do it.
