Do you know when it is okay to be acceptable; do your people know?
How do you communicate that to your people? How do you reward them for ‘acceptable’ workmanship?

Many overachievers seem to be unable to give a brief response to an assignment. When I get a mere “Thank You” for the work that I complete, it is difficult for me to know that I have done what I was asked to do. I guess I really need feedback – something along the lines of “here is what is good about your contribution, and here is where you have gone beyond the call.”
It seems to me then, that it is important to give the feedback that “your best is perfect” would be nice.
So, in order to elicit production that is acceptable and proper we must be very clear about a time-table and some particulars about the expectations for fulfilment of the task. Then we need to follow up with some kind of feedback beyond a vague thank you.
