http://www.djiboutijones.com/In 2003, Rachel left Minnesota and moved to Somalia where her husband taught Physics and English at Amoud University in a northern village. Since then, she has also lived in Kenya, France, and Djibouti.
Her husband, Tom, teaches at the University of Djibouti and runs our NGO, Resource Exchange International. Their aim is to be a part of community development that affects the whole person, from education to employment to the spiritual life and physical health. Long-term change requires long-term investment and so, after eleven years, they are still there.
The Expatriate and Leadership
Expatriates are often put into positions of leadership simply by nature of our physical presence or because of a certain number of years lived in a place. Sometimes it is because a person is a gifted leader, sometimes they are a reluctant leader, sometimes it happens organically, and sometimes it is an appointment.
