http://www.chsource.org/Brent Fulton is President of ChinaSource and the editor of the ChinaSource Quarterly.
Prior to assuming his current position, he served from 1995 to 2000 as Managing Director of the Institute for Chinese Studies at Wheaton College. From 1987 to 1995 he served as founding US Director of China Ministries International, and from 1985 to 1986 as English Publications Editor for the Chinese Church Research Center in Hong Kong.
Dr. Fulton holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Political Science from the University of Southern California and a B.A. in Radio-TV-Film from Messiah College.
An avid China watcher, Dr. Fulton has written and taught extensively on the church in China and on Chinese social and political phenomena.
Dr. Fulton and his wife, Jasmine, live in Hong Kong.
Tools, Not Solutions, for Chinese Churches
Chinese Christians have become adept at finding solutions by relying upon the Lord. Partners with them should be encouraged to bring tools rather than providing solutions. These tools in the hands of Chinese leaders may provide the means for devising suitable approaches to the challenges they face. Brent says mentors that model godly character traits help to build solution-finding leaders.
The Church in China: Toward a New Narrative
China is experiencing the most massive urban migration in the history of the world. The relocation of nearly 300 million people from the countryside to the cities has helped raise millions out of poverty, contributed to the rise of a new middle class, and, along with the one-child policy, brought about irreversible change in the Chinese family structure. It is this transformation of the church into a dynamic urban movement that constitutes the real story in China today. Does China Need More Leadership Training?
Last week I had two meetings in as many days regarding two proposed leadership training efforts aimed at Christians in China. Both were well thought through and grew out of decades of China experience. As we looked at the various offerings already available to church leaders in China, the question that emerged in both cases was, “Is this really needed?”
