Al Lopus is the President and co-founder of the Best Christian Workplaces Institute, founded in 2002. The Institute provides research-based measurement tools and culture change advisory services with a single vision: to help Christian organizations set the standard as the best, most effective workplaces in the world.
At BCWI, Al has conducted the broadest-ever employee opinion survey of Christian workers. The comprehensive survey includes more than 100 churches and over 600 Christian organizations in the United States, Canada and Australia.
Al is a recognized author, speaker and consultant engaged in coaching Christian leaders to build flourishing organizations so that their ministries thrive and grow. His thought leadership articles have been published by Leadership Network, CLA's Outcomes Magazine and Church Executive. BCWI's clients include American Bible Society, Bethel University, CRISTA Ministries, Denver Rescue Mission, English Language Institute/China, ECCU, Joni & Friends, The Gideons International, The Navigators, and Wycliffe.
BCWI's church clients include Willow Creek Community Church, Church of the Resurrection (Kansas City Area), Gateway Church (Dallas), Crossroads (Cincinnati) Beulah Alliance (Edmonton, Alberta), and Southland Christian Church (Kentucky). Prior to co-founding BCWI, Al served for 21 years in several leadership roles with the global human resource consulting firm, Watson Wyatt, now Towers Watson.
Al has served on the CLA Board for 6 years, and is currently on the Advisory Board. He also serves on the Board for Virginia Mason Medical Center, a 5,000 employee healthcare organization in Seattle, which was recently awarded the designation of being the Hospital of the Decade. Al serves as the chair for The Nicolas Fund for Education, a scholarship program for children in the Guatemala highlands.
Al is married to Kathy Lopus. They have two adult daughters, Lane and Christina. Al is active at the Evergreen Covenant Church where he has served as Deacon, Elder and Chair of the Senior Pastor Search Committee and Strategic Planning Committee.
