Changing the world can start with a dream but without the necessary tools to make that dream a reality, it could remain fleeting and intangible. There are dreams we cannot forget, that rattle around in our brains and keep us coming back. If we can walk along the path to successfully seeing a dream turn into a plan, we can see millions of live changed.

To be effective a leader must delegate many responsibilities, as well as – whenever possible – the necessary decision-making authority. However, there are two critical areas that uniquely require the leader’s personal attention: vision and leader development.

It could be the same when you encounter a pitfall in a new leadership position at a church. As leaders, we are responsible for the vision of our organization. But how do we know what is a healthy or unhealthy vision? In this interview, Jenni answers that question and more.

The effective leader will focus on three time horizons simultaneously: 1. Cultivating current responsibilities, extending and defending the core existing ministries. 2. Tending and nurturing emerging ideas, strategies, and processes. 3. Planting seeds for tomorrow. This pattern encompasses the mature, emergent, and embryonic phases of an organization’s life cycle. The leader is responsible to see that they are all addressed effectively.

Dogs are exuberant in their joy. They exhibit it when they see you coming. It never matters how long – it could be ten minutes or ten hours – their joy is just as exultant. They know their purpose is to share that joy with you. However, it’s easy to get to a place in life where you forget the joy that you first found in your role. To rediscover that joy, leaders may only need to take a step back, and find the purpose and vision that God designed in what we are doing. We can have exultant joy.
