Leaders may be described as curving inward toward themselves and their own interests or curving outwards towards others. How do we achieve the convex shape of the leader who is “curved outward” toward those they lead and serve?
True leaders are servants who die to themselves so others may flourish. True leaders go forth not for themselves but for others. If the foundation of leadership is “go forth and die,” no one should outpace the Church in developing and deploying leaders. Here are two reasons that the Church should develop leaders who “go forth and die.” We have the ultimate example.
Research studies all seem to return to one major theme to explain the exodus of church members: a sense of some need not being filled. In other words, these members have ideas of what a local congregation should provide for them, and they leave because those provisions have not been met. But many times, probably more than we would like to believe, a church member leaves a local body because he or she has a sense of entitlement.
