  1. I have seen a pastor go through a nervous breakdown due to the pressures of ministry. He did not fall into moral sin or financial shenanigans – but he just got tired. He took some time off – a sabbatical. He got some counselling and he drew closer to Jesus. He came back stronger than ever. The people in the church appreciate that he is human, and that he needs Jesus just like the rest of us.

Another individual went through a horrible ordeal with illness in his 6 year old child, almost to the point of never praying for anyone about anything. But now he is more deeply connected to Jesus and prays for anyone and everyone – whenever they ask – right then and there.

As often as not, it is through trouble and affliction that we are driven to come up close to Jesus. We think that it all about what God is trying to teach us – but often it is about what others are seeing in you as you cling to Jesus. So many times, I have seen my friends and co-workers in agony as they suffer affliction – but I see them draw near to Jesus. In your darkest hour, when the fire is all around you – it is then that you are coming closer to Jesus.

Those who are watching you, those who are in their own struggle – they, we see you. And as we look on, we see a wonderful Savior draw you nearer and nearer to Him. We want what you have. We want Him to.

If our organization is committed to the chief purpose of exalting the Lord Jesus, then our own connection to Him as individuals can only make us more effective. And as we see our co-workers coming closer to Jesus we will all become more effective.
